When it comes to fantasy games, few can have the same impact as the Elder Scrolls series. The fifth installment of this RPG classic, Skyrim, has become something of a gaming phenomenon since its release in 2011. With its stunning visuals, deep gameplay mechanics, and immersive storyline, players are captivated for hours on end. But what do you do when you’ve explored every nook and cranny of Tamriel? We've compiled a list of the ten best games, like Skyrim, that will keep your sword-swinging and spell-casting cravings satisfied.
Elder Scrolls Online
First up is the Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). This massively multiplayer online game takes place in an even bigger version of Tamriel than we saw in Skyrim. You can explore all areas familiar from past Elder Scrolls titles as well as brand-new ones, including High Rock and Elsweyr. Along with exciting quests, unique dungeons, and plenty of character customization options, ESO offers a wealth of content that’ll keep you busy for many hours. It's also worth noting that, unlike most MMOs, there is no subscription fee, so once you purchase the game, you can play without paying any additional cost.
Dragon Age Inquisition
Next on our list is Dragon Age Inquisition – a superb action RPG released by Bioware in 2014. Featuring stunning graphics powered by Frostbite 3 engine, DAI offers intense combat encounters with huge dragons along with thrilling story missions set across several open-world locations such as Ferelden and Orlais. With choice-driven dialogues and moral decisions that affect how your adventure pans out, this game provides an engrossing experience similar to what players get from playing Skyrim – only better!
The Witcher 3: Wild Hun
Thirdly we have The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – one of the greatest RPGs ever made, according to some gamers! Developed by CD Projekt Red (the same studio responsible for the 2019 hit Cyberpunk 2077), TW3 follows Geralt on his quest through lands filled with monsters waiting to be slain or tamed or talked down if they prove friendly enough! The detailed visuals paired up with excellent storytelling make it one heck of an adventure worthy enough to replace your favorite dragon-slaying sim when needed!
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
If swords & sorcery aren't quite your thing, then Kingdom Come: Deliverance might just be exactly what you're looking for instead! Set during medieval times in Bohemia, KC:D focuses more on realism rather than fantasy elements found in other titles mentioned here before it – expect a realistic combat system with individual strikes rather than preloaded combos used mostly everywhere else; historically accurate castles and cities plus branching storylines resulting from choices made earlier during conversations – it's all here to thanks to Warhorse Studios' impressive vision brought alive after 5 years long development cycle!
Fallout 4
Moving onto another type altogether, we have Fallout 4 – Bethesda Softwork's post-apocalyptic take on their own RPG formula seen before primarily in Fallout 3 & New Vegas games but also somewhat present within Elder Scrolls 5th mainline title too, if we look closely enough at certain systems featured there.
Just like these two franchises, FO4 features deep roleplaying possibilities allowing us to decide who our character should be while simultaneously exploring ruined wastelands full of danger lurking around every corner, just don't forget about crafting gear necessary for survival either, or else death will welcome us far sooner than expected unfortunately which could very well put a damper over our playthrough quickly sadly, but hey at least radiation won't kill us right? Right?!
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
Next up comes Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire – a sequel produced by Obsidian Entertainment taking place within the Eora universe established the first time back during the original PoE launch campaign circa the 2015 year whereupon fans were greeted into unknown realms filled with mystery & intrigue while observing characters living own lives completely unaware our existence within their world as events unfolded naturally around them without being forced artificially via external influences strange yet wonderful indeed.
Plus, let's not forget the turn-based tactical combat system featuring real-time pausing abilities making a strategic approach towards fighting enemy hordes possible by careful planning ahead, thus giving the player edge over the opposition smartly executed, and I'd say perfection if you ask me.
Overwatch
Following these two titles, Overwatch is the next big name standing tall amongst the competition due in large part thanks to recognition obtained due to success generated throughout various tournaments worldwide, plus the tremendous amount of free updates steadily released alongside a plethora of cosmetic customization items offered inside loot boxes available exclusively via microtransactions route though thankfully none those provide any sort advantage in the game whatsoever so the balance remains true always good sign eh?
Furthermore, robust matchmaking algorithm works diligently behind the scenes ensuring each battle is pitted between teams equally matched in terms of skill levels striving to maintain fairness among participants. Admirable quality hard to find nowadays seems, not to mention great fun playing against friends both old & new alike:)
Dark Souls II
Continuing onwards again, we reach Dark Souls III latest entry Soulsborne franchise developed FromSoftware originally launched back in 2016, followed shortly afterward by Ashes Ariandel DLC, raising the bar even higher challenging veterans and newcomers alike to go toe-toe fiercely, hoping to survive encounter a victorious course ultimately rewarded appropriately victory obtained whilst course much satisfaction gained completing difficult task defeating powerful boss yay!! Thereby making DSIII essential buy anyone remotely interested in the genres involved, particularly the souls-like subgenre gaining traction lately speaking off tough challenges. Monster Hunter World awaits brave adventurers ready to hunt the biggest baddest creatures inhabiting planet Earth today equipped with special weapons and armor upgradeable, increasing chances of survival greatly; yeah, baby!!
Mass Effect 2
Finally, for those interested in science fiction rather than fantasy settings, then Mass Effect 2 should definitely be at least tried out once before making any decisions about it as it offers maybe even more choices than what other non-RPGs do nowadays where creating your own Shepard (the main protagonist) or being able to choose between three different endings depending on how much loyalty missions were completed during playtime still makes this title stand out among others within the same genre after almost ten years since its first release date back in 2010 already!
Furthermore, everything else related – ranging from the storyline itself up until actual combat scenes looks & feels unique enough so no matter whether someone prefers shooting down enemy soldiers instead arguing with them or vice versa (or even both!), Mass Effect 2 surely has enough content within its vast universe, which could easily please anyone regardless of their tastes whenever it comes to gaming industry content overall indeed!
